Comida Mexicana began life as Margarita's East Coast in 1996 and now trades under its Spanish name from a two-storey shophouse at 404 East Coast Road, near Telok Kurau. The dining room is loud with colour: painted murals, framed pictures and mismatched red, blue and green chairs. The restaurant says many of its ingredients come straight from Mexico, and the bar stocks 100% agave tequilas and mezcals.
The menu is broad and familiar. Start with the seven-layer dip or queso fundido, then move on to baked crab enchiladas with wild-caught crabmeat, fajitas served with sautéed onions, guacamole and warm tortillas, or slow-oven-roasted pork carnitas. The Mexican Yucatán chicken skewers are marinated in achiote and orange, and the Kahlua tiramisu is the house dessert. Margaritas come by the glass or in five-glass pitchers.
It suits families and groups in the east who want a relaxed, generous Mexican meal. Lunch runs 11.30am to 2.30pm and dinner 6pm to 10pm, Tuesday to Sunday; it is closed on Mondays. Book through OpenTable; delivery is also available via its own ordering site.
