Bangkok has a deep Mexican scene, with Mexican-run taquerias, house-made corn tortillas and restaurants that go well beyond Tex-Mex. Several places stay open late, and one, Sunrise Tacos on Silom, never closes.
On Sukhumvit, El Santo has a courtyard and more than 65 tequilas and mezcals, Molino grinds its own corn tortillas, and Danzante cooks chiles rellenos and cochinita pibil. The Missing Burro serves lamb barbacoa in Thonglor shipping containers. On Ploenchit, La Monita Taqueria has been open since 2009. In Silom and Charoen Krung, Ojo is Thailand's highest restaurant, Delia is Michelin-listed, Cholos does LA-style tacos, and Sunrise Tacos is open 24 hours.
The BTS and MRT reach most listings, which saves sitting in traffic. Book Ojo and Delia well ahead, especially at weekends. For a cheaper night, look for the Taco Tuesday boards at La Lupita, while casual taquerias such as Cholos and Tacos & Salsa keep the bill under US$25 a head.
