Mexican Eat Where

Singapore

Singapore has one of the most established Mexican dining scenes in Asia. Margarita's has been serving since 1988 and Cha Cha Cha since 1990, while a newer wave of taquerias has brought birria, house-made tortillas and mezcal bars to shophouse streets across the city.

The guide covers five areas. Tanjong Pagar, Chinatown and the CBD have Lucha Loco, Mami's Tamales and Nixta Mexican Grill & Bar. Around City Hall and the river are Super Loco Robertson Quay and Tomatillo at Esplanade. Bugis and Kampong Glam include Huevos and Papi's Tacos. Orchard, Dempsey and Holland Village have Margarita's and the halal-certified Sanchos Taqueria, and Katong and the neighbourhoods take in Bored Tacos and Comida Mexicana.

Most areas are easy to reach by MRT. Book ahead for weekend dinners at the bigger cantinas. Halal options are limited: Sanchos Taqueria is certified, and Bored Tacos is pork-free.
