Nixta is Chef Travis Masiero's Mexican grill and bar on Amoy Street, part of his restaurant group. The kitchen nixtamalises and grinds non-GMO corn from small Mexican farms for its blue corn tortillas, cooked on a comal. A wood-fired rotisserie anchors the open kitchen, and salsas are ground by hand in volcanic stone molcajetes. The room is warm, wood-lined and slightly smoky.
Order from the heirloom masa section first: the tlayuda de la casa with roasted corn and epazote, or the blue crab tlayuda. Tacos include duck barbacoa, Kurobuta pork belly al pastor and Baja fish, and the signature spit and herb-roasted chicken comes with green rice and black beans. Larger groups can share the 1.2kg Nixtahawk rib eye. Finish with tres leches cake or churros with cajeta.
It suits date nights and CBD dinners. The bar runs margaritas, a Nixta Old Fashioned and a long list of tequilas and mezcals. Sunday brunch is Mexico City style, from 11am. Reservations are made online or by WhatsApp.
