Tomatillo Mexican Food & Bar

Tomatillo opened at Esplanade Mall in February 2025, run by chef couple Daniel and Tamara Chavez, who are also behind Canchita Peruvian Cuisine and Tinto. Tamara, who is Mexican, heads the kitchen. The space is split into several moods: a leafy indoor room with parquet floors and rattan furniture, a corner with vinyl records and salsa music, and outdoor terraces facing the bay, part of which is pet-friendly.

Tortillas are made in-house. Tacos cost S$5.90 each and include al pastor with arbol salsa and pineapple, a crisp soft-shell crab taco de jaiba with habanero mayo, birria and a vegetarian version with grilled asparagus. Larger plates cover ceviches, aguachiles, octopus tostadas, nachos and pork ribs, with churros to finish. The bar pours margaritas, palomas, Mexican beers and a list of tequilas and mezcals.

Good for an evening on the waterfront before or after a show at Esplanade. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, opens for lunch only at weekends, and takes bookings through SevenRooms.
