Charley Brown's has been serving Mexican food in Bangkok since 1992, making it one of the city's oldest names in the genre. After years on Sukhumvit Soi 11 it moved to a quieter spot on Soi 19 near Asok, on the ground floor of the iCheck Inn Hotel. BK Magazine describes the room as friendly, modern and a little silly, down to the jokes on the bathroom walls.
The kitchen is led by Mexico City native Primo Rivera, whose menu sits Mexican home cooking alongside the Tex-Mex classics regulars expect. If you cannot decide, the Charley Brown platter brings a taco, an enchilada and a chimichanga with rice and beans. Rivera's own dishes include a smoky sopa de tortilla with chicken, avocado and guajillo chilli, a ceviche tropical with coconut milk, lime and mango, and filete ranchero, a tenderloin with grilled cheese and ranchero sauce.
Margaritas get as much attention as the tacos, so it works well for a relaxed group dinner or after-work drinks. It is a short walk from BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit. Check current opening hours before you go, as published times vary between sources.
