La Monita opened in Mahatun Plaza on Ploenchit Road in 2009, making it one of Bangkok's longer-running Mexican restaurants. The room is bright and casual, with yellow walls, papel picado bunting and a semi-outdoor area at the back. It describes its cooking as California-style Mexican, built on handmade tortillas, slow-cooked meats and a dozen house salsas. Its more ambitious sister, Santiaga, sits upstairs in the same building.
The quesa-birria tacos with consommé are a fan favourite, and regulars come for the enchiladas and the carne asada taco made with New Zealand rib eye. Baja fish tacos, al pastor, carnitas, nacho fries and wet burritos fill out the menu, with churros to finish. Weekend brunch runs until 3pm.
This is an easy, good-value choice for an after-work burrito and margarita, and it works for families too, with a kids' menu priced from ฿165. Menu prices include VAT and service. It sits close to BTS Ploenchit, and reservations can be made through the website.
