Muchachos is the burrito bar run by Jonathan Yang and Elson Lee, modelled on the Mission-style joints of San Francisco. After a break it returned to the CBD at Frasers Tower, facing Amoy Street Food Centre, with neon signs, cement table tops and white subway tiles. Flour tortillas are locally sourced and steamed rather than grilled.
The burritos are the reason to come: the California burrito, carne asada, pollo asado and carnitas, packed with beans, cheese and the house guacamole. Carne asada fries come loaded with steak, guacamole, cheese and sour cream, and the menu also runs to tacos, quesadillas, nachos, birria quesatacos with consommé, a cheeseburger and fried chicken sandwiches. Jarritos sodas are on hand.
It is a fast, filling lunch for office workers around Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar. Taco Tuesday brings tacos down to S$3 each. Hours vary between sources, so check its Facebook page before visiting; reservations are not taken.
