Lucha Cantina opened its first branch on Soi Ta-ied in Chalong in 2023, the idea of a Philadelphia-born owner who came to the street to train Muay Thai and could not find proper Mexican food. The look follows the name: luchador artwork, wrestling on the TVs, neon and patterned tiles, with weekly Latin dance nights and live music.
The kitchen is run by executive chef Luis “Quique” Villa from Colima, and the menu goes past burritos into pozole (chicken blanco or lamb rojo), tamales, huaraches, molotes and lengua. Quesabirria tacos and flautas are the crowd-pleasers; tacos gobernador with chipotle prawns, aguachile de camarón and guacamole pounded at the table in a molcajete are worth a look too.
It suits groups, birthdays and anyone after a lively night rather than a quiet dinner. There are vegan, gluten-free and kids' menus, free local delivery within 1–2km, and bookings by WhatsApp. A second branch runs on Soi Saiyuan in Rawai.
