Tahona is a small evening spot on Soi Saiyuan in Rawai, named after the stone wheel used to crush agave. The room is done up like a corner of a Mexican town, with warm lighting, painted tiles, a neon “Mexico” sign and plenty of music, and it stays open until 1am most nights.
The menu is short and focused. Birria tacos are the dish most people come for, with chorizo tacos, crisp empanadas, taquitos and beef or chicken quesadillas alongside fresh guacamole and chips. Portions per taco are modest but well filled, so ordering several plates to share works best. The bar carries a notable tequila selection and the spicy margarita is the house favourite.
Good for a casual dinner with friends or a late drink with tacos. Expect it to be noisy later in the evening. Payment is mainly cash, there is free parking nearby, and takeaway and delivery are available. Closed on Wednesdays.
