Gangstas sits at 91 Yung Shue Wan Main Street in Yung Shue Wan, the island's main village, and brings Mexico City-style street food to an island better known for seafood and beach bars. The dining room is decorated in bright colours, and the menu is short enough to read over a cold beer.
Foodie's writer singles out the Gangstas nachos (HK$120) as the top order, piled with melted cheese and toppings and offered with beef, pork or vegan fillings. Tacos come four to a plate (from HK$90) on corn tortillas with cabbage, pico de gallo, lime and coriander, and guacamole (HK$60) arrives with freshly fried chips. It is also one of the few places in Hong Kong serving tortas: the torta cochito (HK$120) stacks al pastor pork, refried beans, avocado, cheese and pineapple in a crusty roll. Lime margaritas, micheladas and Mexican beers fill out the drinks.
Gangstas suits a relaxed day trip to Lamma, especially before the ferry back. It closes on Mondays and Tuesdays. Contact is by WhatsApp, and the team also caters private junk-boat trips with a Mexican menu.
