Uncle Miguel sits on Peel Street in Soho, a stretch known for its bars, and it plays the part with a buzzing room and a strong cocktail list. The founders say the idea came from an elderly Mexican man they met in Cuba who sold his hometown tacos from a street stall lit by a lantern each night.
Tacos lead the menu: Baja fish, al pastor, mango shrimp with mango salsa, and crunchy Brussels sprouts for non-meat eaters. Quesadillas, homemade guacamole, elote, ceviche, enchiladas, pork barbacoa and churros fill out the rest. At weekends and on public holidays there is a brunch menu with huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos and a free-flow option. To drink, there are signature margaritas, micheladas, Mexican beers and tequilas.
This is a place for groups and nights out rather than a quiet dinner. Happy hour runs daily from 3pm to 7pm, and Taco Tuesday runs from 5pm to 10pm. Book online through the website.
