Johnny Tacos

Johnny Tacos is a small, casual taco bar on Jalan Samudra, just off Jalan Kartika Plaza at the Tuban end of Kuta. Bali.com describes it as the island's first food-truck-style taco bar, and it still keeps things simple: a short Mexican menu, relaxed seating and quick service a few minutes from the beach. It opens daily from 8am to 11pm.

The menu sticks to Mexican street-food classics. Honeycombers recommends the shrimp tacos and the chicken tostadas, and the House Combo brings two tacos with corn chips, homemade salsa and a cocktail. There are plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices, chips with guacamole and margaritas, and a house hot sauce for anyone who wants real heat.

It suits a cheap post-surf bite or a quick meal before a night out in Kuta, and works well for vegetarians and vegans. There is no online booking, so walk in; delivery is available through Gojek. Halal status has not been confirmed, so ask if it matters to you.
