About

Lacalita opened on Jl. Drupadi in Seminyak in 2012 and has been a fixture of Bali's Mexican scene ever since. The menu pairs Oaxacan-style moles with a lighter, Californian approach, and the space is set up for long, sociable meals with sharing plates and a busy bar. Its jalapeño margarita is widely credited with starting the island's spicy margarita habit.

Tacos come three to a plate on gluten-free corn tortillas made in-house daily: try the Baja fish with tempura snapper, the 12-hour pork al pastor or the wagyu carne asada. The large plates are where the moles show up, notably braised beef cheek in black mole with tarragon corn crema and crispy-skin snapper with green pea and almond mole. Finish with churros or tres leches, and look at the margarita flights.

Good for groups and nights out; Tuesday brings Rp35k tacos and Saturday is Agave Night with two-for-one tequila and mezcal. Prices carry 6% service and 10% tax. The original Canggu branch is on Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong, and the team also runs a taco cart and mobile bar for villa parties.
