Amigos was opened in Central Jakarta in 1979 by Ron Mullers and moved to Kemang Club Villas two years later, where it has stayed ever since. The dining room is covered in hand-painted Mexican murals and colourful decor, and the stage hosts bands through the week, with Latin music and salsa on Friday nights.
The food is classic Tex-Mex. Regulars order the nachos grande, quesadillas, burritos, enchiladas and sizzling fajitas, with fresh salsa and guacamole on the side, and many dishes come with a choice of vegetarian, chicken or beef fillings. Beef ribs also feature. The margaritas are what the bar is best known for, and press guides regularly rate them among the city's favourites.
Amigos suits groups, birthdays and expats looking for a lively night with music. It opens from 10am daily and stays open until midnight on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Other branches are at the Tavia Heritage Hotel in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, and on Kebon Sirih, with a further outlet at Pollux Mall in Batam.
