Jakarta's Mexican scene is centred on South Jakarta, especially Kemang and Kebayoran Baru, with a few spots in the Sudirman and Kuningan business districts. It runs from a 1979 Tex-Mex cantina to late-night mezcal bars and mall taco counters.

Amigos Bar & Cantina at Kemang Club Villas has served margaritas and fajitas since 1979, with live bands most nights. Cantinero on Jalan Gunawarman is an underground tequila and mezcal cantina open until 4am at weekends. Taco Local in Wijaya Grand Centre serves al pastor tacos and breakfast tacos from 10am. Carbón cooks over live fire on the 11th floor of MD Place in Kuningan. Taqueria El Guapo in Ashta District 8 focuses on birria, Bearrito in Bintaro is known for birria burritos, and Chileco Mexican Grill in WTC 2 feeds office workers on weekdays.

Allow plenty of time for traffic. Chileco Mexican Grill is pork-free; most others serve pork. Book Carbón ahead.
