Cantinero is a basement cantina from the Biko Group, below Fūjin on Jalan Gunawarman in the Senopati area. Since opening in 2022 it has kept a deliberately rough-edged look: a hand-painted skull mural in a sombrero, Aztec symbols, folk-print tablecloths and vintage Mexican props. DJs play on Friday nights.
Drinks come first, with a broad tequila and mezcal collection, tequila shots served with salted pineapple, watermelon and orange, and cocktails such as a slushy margarita with mezcal, pineapple and passion fruit, or the Ancho Libre with tequila, rum and green chilli liqueur. The food is snack-sized: tacos de pollo with cotija and pickled onion, crispy pork-belly tacos de pancita, carne asada tacos, fajitas and jalapeño poppers, with a plate of rice, chicken thigh, refried beans and corn for something heavier. Tuesday is taco night.
Best for after-work drinks and late nights with friends. It opens from 6pm, stays open until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays. Book through TableCheck.
