Cantina Mexicana

Cantina Mexicana is a bright, backyard-style cantina in the middle of Kuta, Lombok, run by the team behind Satu Lagi. Picnic tables sit under a high roof among painted walls and shipping-container bars, and the place fills up most nights, with weekly live music and Latin dance sessions.

The food is Mexican street grub drawn from across the country. Reviewers rate the chicken and chorizo tacos, elote and cheesy enchiladas, and there are birria tacos, a puffy taco menu, quesadillas, guacamole and family-size nachos for sharing. The bar pours Baja-style cocktails, frozen and classic margaritas, and a well-regarded tequila and mezcal list.

It suits groups and anyone wanting dinner before a night out; families tend to come before 9pm, when the music gets louder. Happy hour runs 4–7pm. Tables are booked by WhatsApp until 7pm and walk-ins are welcome; bring cash, as cards may carry a surcharge.
